Would Christ be happy with supplying guns to Libya and commanding US troops to protect Afghan opium fields?
No. But two caveats. 1. Christ taught that we sometimes have to go to war. For example, he told a parable of a vineyard seized by robbers who began murdering the emissaries of the owner. It took a military force to reclaim the vineyard. In the case of violent jihad, the Muslim crazies are not going to respond to words alone. They will continue to kill and enslave the innocent unless the innocent arm themselves and repel the crazies. That will take the help of free people. 2. Jesus also taught that we need to make decisions about war very carefully, e.g., deciding whether we have the force to win (see Luke 14:31: “”Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?”).
