Would Chinese herbal remedies benefit from a little Western touch?
The fusion of traditional Chinese and modern Western medicine will be discussed at a free public lecture tonight (Tuesday, 22 March). University of Melbourne Professorial Fellow, Professor Yean Leng Lim will present ‘The Convergence of Eastern and Western Medicine’ at the University in the second of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences 2005 Dean’s Lecture series. Professor Lim says that the advent of molecular biology and the discovery of the human genome in recent decades has opened up a new era of medicine in which the therapeutic qualities of Chinese herbal remedies can now be explored scientifically. “The fusion of Eastern and Western approaches could lead to the discovery of a brave new world of medicine,” he says. In his talk Professor Lim will highlight the similarities in clinical practices between Eastern and Western medicine.
