Would Businesses Reject a Proposal to Ban Goods Made by Forced Labor?
A customs bill introduced by Senator Baucus and Senator Grassley, the Customs Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Reauthorization Act of 2009, would prohibit the importation of goods made by forced labor, bonded labor, convict labor or trafficked labor as defined in the TVPA. Apparently a trade journal, “Inside US Trade,” suggested that businesses would worry about such import limitations. As a result of this report, many blogs, media outlets and others have voiced their opinions and shock that there could be any obstacles to the passage of a bill to fight slavery.
