Would a standardbred make a good endurance horse?
I’ve used my STB in endurance and my farrier trims another STB that was and endurance horse. They are tough horses with good endurance, but comfort wise I’d rather be on my Rocky Mountain Horse. When my horse was on the track it wasn’t uncommon for him to do 15 – 20 miles to build muscle, improve his endurace, and cardio capacity. When I got him he was pretty much already fit for CTR distances and short endurance courses. Honestly neither my RMH or my STB held a candle to my arab-appaloosa cross, but they always do well. My ara-appy could prance, spook, and show off after a 35-50 mile ride like it was nothing. The other two finish in good condition, but are obviously tired. They don’t have that spark at the end. Now the STB my farrier trims was a pro. That mare did an amazing job. They bred her 3 years ago to an arab and I expect that foal will be amazing on the trail.
