Would a perm help my naturally curly hair?

I also have very curly hair that springs up when it dries. From personal experience, the less chemicals on our ‘curly tops’ the better. I’ve never attempted a perm, but had my hair straightened and it took a very long time to reverse the damange since our hair follicles are pourus and damaged so eaily. The straightening worked immediately, but not long afterwards my curl began to come back and as it grew out I had the crown of my head very curly and the rest of my head was wavy- looked ridiculous. Got an idea though- if you have layers long enough to do this..braid your hair loosely while it dries, then use a setting spray. The braid will coax the curl to loosen a bit. I’ve also used plastic large rollers and blowdry with a diffuser and setting spray. Hot rollers work too, but again are very damaging to hair. If your hair has shorter layers, try growing them out since longer layers pull the curl out naturally. Good luck!
