It definitely depends upon whether this is a film or digital class. If it is digital, then the lumix may be adequate, you would just have to speak with the instructor. If this is a film class you will have to get a film camera that has manual aperture and shutter control. It usually can also have automatic control, but must have manual control as well. And you can find one for $50-100. Also if this is a film class, you will most likely be working in the darkroom. You will have to buy film (around $3-5 per roll) and paper (about $60-70 for 100 sheets) to make prints. You may need to buy matboard to mount the prints on (about $3 per board). And there may be a few other little things that you are required to get. I was required to purchase a gray card ($8). It all adds up. A film photography class is not cheap.
