Word has it that both of the traditional main entrances to the Museum will be renovated and fully open to the public soon. What is the importance of this?
Both main entrances, at Huntington and at Fenway, will be refurbished to permit full access by visitors of all abilities. Work on the Fenway entrance is complete, and renovations of the Huntington entrance will get underway this summer. The Fenway entrance is graced by a pair of reflecting pools, as well as ramps built into the stairway and new adjacent landscaping and lighting. Inside, visitors will find a new ticket desk and easy access to the newly located and enhanced Sharf Visitor Center. At Huntington, ramps will also be incorporated into the stairs for easy access, and inside there will be a new information desk and ticketing center. Both of these entrances will be open to the public in the winter of 2009, reestablishing the Museum’s traditional north-south axis. Visitors at either entrance will be guided to the Sharf Visitor Center to begin their Museum explorations. Reopening both entrances once again allows the Museum to interact more readily with its Boston and Fenway neighb
