Won’t the prohibition of cross-country travel put additional OHV pressure on a limited number of existing roads and trails?
A. Cross-country travel is naturally limited in many parts of the Forest due to terrain and vegetation, so it is unlikely that this change will affect the way that people use the Forest. Two recreation areas (Huckleberry Flats and Santiam Pass) are currently managed to provide appropriate and safe settings for OHV recreation. Most of the existing roads and trails currently open to OHVs will continue to remain open, where safety concerns can be mitigated.
