Within the letter of engagement, how do we address the CRA requirement to indicate “training” as part of the PDF experience?
A As you know the University has revised the guidelines for Postdoctoral Fellows as of January 2008 which includes a new registration system that generates the engagement letter for prospective post docs. Training for PDFs is addressed within the 3rd paragraph of the form letter using the following text. During your engagement, to facilitate your training, you will be provided with training and professional development opportunities (a description of which is enclosed) in addition to the training and mentoring that is part of the Postdoctoral research experience itself. This text is important because CRA needs indication of training for tax exemption purposes. U of T will be applying to CRA for block tax exemption but needs to have registration and training sessions in place before application can go in. SGS is working on creating a career development sessions for post docs, which will cover the CRA requirements for training.
