With the advent of coalition politics, has market volatility near election results become inevitable?
A clear trend that has emerged during the metamorphosis of the political landscape in the last 10 years or so has been the fact that coalition politics has become the norm, given the diversity of the Indian society.Political wrangling has resulted in reforms in key areas being stalled in recent years. At the same time, a political consensus has emerged on the need for reforms and despite change in governments, the overall direction of the reform programme has been positive. In that sense, it is just the democratic process playing out. The country clearly needs better infrastructure and that needs to be the focus area in the years to come.
