With so many cars, the hazard of oil and gas run-off could contaminate our water supply. What is being done to make sure this doesn happen?
Here are two critical DEP standards to be voluntarily implemented: Standard 4 Removal of 80% Total Suspended Solids (TSS) For new development, stormwater management systems must be designed to remove 80% of the average annual load (post-development conditions) of Total Suspended Solids (TSS). It is presumed that this standard is met when: (a) Suitable non-structural practices for source control and pollution prevention are implemented; (b) Stormwater management best practices (BMPs) are sized to capture the prescribed runoff volume; and (c) Stormwater management BMPs are maintained as designed. and Standard 6 Critical Areas Stormwater discharges to critical areas must utilize certain stormwater management BMPs approved for critical areas. . .Critical areas are. . .recharge areas for public water supplies. Though the terms above are a bit technical, the end result means that the system designed will remove hazardous run-off near any critical water supplies. The most important point to r
