With priestly vocations seemingly in decline, why is CTU building a new academic center?

A. Despite recent declines, Catholic Theological Union is a growing enterprise. While there are fewer seminarians than in other periods of church history, significant numbers of men are still called to the priesthood. Many seek the quality education that CTU offers in which they are prepared side-by-side with the laity in a diverse and international context. At the same time, CTU provides theological education for lay men and women. Over the years the number of lay students has risen dramatically and now accounts for nearly half of all CTU students. Additionally, several women’s religious communities have relocated their formation houses to CTU’s Hyde Park neighborhood so their candidates can study at CTU.
