with negative attitudes toward singing?

Students in the middle years are sometimes self-conscious and do not generally like to do things that amy make them feel vulnerable, such as singing. Before students will participate willingly there needs to be a trusting environment in the classroom. When students are secure in the knowledge that they will not be ridiculed by their peers they will be more apt to sing. There are also many other activities that can be done with middle years students that do not necessarily involve singing. The new curriculum requires students to explore the use of the voice in sound exploration activities beginning in the elementary years. Students will feel comfortable using their voice in traditional and non-traditional ways.
