Most electronics use a certain amount of current even when off, if nothing else, to keep the transformer energized. This gives off unnecessary heat as well. Unplug all transformers (power supplies) for things like laptops, cell phone chargers, etc when not in use. This also applies to your television etc even when off. (Caution – some devices will reset when you do this and you may lose settings). To make this convenient, you can simply put them all on a switchable power strip and turn the whole strip off instead of unplugging the thing. Obviously turn off all lights when you don’t need them, switch to compact fluorescent lights (more expensive in the short term but saves money in the long term and don’t heat up the room as much). Heating water is a major power drain, so use as little hot water as you can – that will save energy. Example – wash in cold water instead of warm or hot.
