There is a general rule, however. Every wireless transmitter has a LOS (line of sight) rating. This is the maximum distance you can achieve between the transmitter and the receiver with ABSOLUTELY NO obstacles in the way. This distance can only be achieved with nothing in the way–not a house, wall, tree, twig, or hand. For most people this is not the case. Most people have obstructions. As a general rule of thumb, you can expect to get 25%-30% of the LOS rating in typical everyday use. Of course, the more obstructions, the less distance, and the fewer obstructions, the greater distance.
