2.4.1 In the matter of language teaching in general, we have already submitted a paper to the Minister of Education in the context of the major review he has initiated in Education Policy for the period 2008-2020. The full text of the paper was also published in print by News on Sunday and online by Mauritius Times. Our Group is prepared to defend and debate these proposals in any forum that the Minister or any other party would think fit to ask us to. We are looking forward to closer consultation between the government and the public in future than has taken place in the past – when highly vocal and well-organised but seriously prejudiced groups were allowed to monopolise the consultation process. 2.4.2 In the present case, the Minister’s decision to undertake a policy review takes on special importance in the context of his plan to extend education to three-year olds, thereby extending pre-primary education to all children.
