A. No. The internal modem will not be recognized. To install the modem run Add New Hardware in the Control Panel and then reboot for the changes to take effect. In addition the sound card may be recognized incorrectly. If the Windows 98 installation installs the sound card as an ES 1688 Audio drive and your sound card is not an ES 488 sound card, then update the sound card driver to an ES 688 Audio drive in the Device Manager under the sound card driver. If the sound card is an ES 488 Audio drive then update to that driver in the Device Manager under the sound card driver. You can assess your sound card type by looking at the writing on the large black chip of the sound card. Make sure you laptop is turned off. Turn over the laptop so the bottom of the unit is facing upward. The sound card is a small green board underneath a 2 inch by 2 inch panel that snaps up. If you open this compartment and see a small yellow/white socket, you do not have a sound card.
