Will Wachovia bank branches turn into Citibank branches?
Right now, CNBC is reporting that you can continue banking at Wachovia just as you always have. Over time, yes…Citigroup may choose to close some of the Wachovia branches. However, in some markets where they do not currently have a Citi-branch office, they might just rename an existing Wachovia branch and make it a new Citi branch. I also bank with Wachovia. I’m guessing that, in time, we will be slowly moved over to Citigroup. They may allow us to use up the rest of our existing checks and when it’s time to reorder, they’ll have us purchase Citi ones. I’m thinking letters will come out within the next month from Wachovia explaining the buy-out, and perhaps an additional letter from Citigroup explaining how the switchover will work. CNBC says it’ll take six months to make the merger final, so there’s no reason to make any rush decisions just yet on changing a bank.
