Frank,

Typically Vitamin C is indicated as a remedy for those suffering from gout.  Vitamin C has shown a tendency to lower uric acid levels repeatedly in studies.  In fact, a 2005 study of US non-smokers showed that a supplemental dose of Vitamin C as low as 500 mg a day can lower the blood uric acid levels as much as 10%.  High doses of Vitamin C (greater than 1,000 mg/day) could spell problems, as an abrupt change in uric acid levels can trigger a gout flareup.

As always, it is best to discuss these matters with your physician before beginning any sort of regimen.
