Will TURKEY join the EU in definately?
It’s not really for Obama to say who should or shouldn’t join the EU, just as it would not be right for Europeans to tell Americans who they should open their borders too. It only takes one EU Member to block Turkey’s entry and the French PM Sarkozy has already made it clear that he is against Turkish entry and will have a French Referendum on the issue if need be. Turkey’s entry has also been blocked by it’s terrible human rights record and the fact that the Governing Party is becoming ever more Islamic. The Austrians are also been reluctant to expand the EU to include Turkey. Many Europeans do not relish having a country with 70 million Muslims in it, and which borders the Middle East becoming part of the EU. The Governing Turkish Party the AKP are hardly secular and have been trying to enforce Islamic Laws such as Alcohol Bans in recent years. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/may…
President Obama has absolutely no say on who joins or doesn’t join the EU. Most of the EU countries are against it, and I am too, personally. The way they treat women in that country is so condescending. Other than that, I think Obama is doing a heck of a lot better than Bush. He takes action after promising something, instead of just sitting at his desk looking like an ape. And most countries in the EU are very catholic, and won’t be happy when a country with around 70 million muslims joins. That’s why Germany, Austria, France and Spain are against it.
