This is the last year of the guaranteed contract in Detroit for Magglio Ordonez. Built into his contract is a $15 million option for next year, which could escalate to as much as $18 million. As much as it hurts to say, this could be his last season wearing the old English “D” This year’s free agent class answers the question of “Why?” K-Rod didn’t get $60 million. Adam Dunn didn’t get the $100 million he wanted, nor did Manny Ramirez. Pat Burrell settled for $16 million over two seasons, and Bobby Abreu basically got robbed. Besides the Yankees, most franchises are feeling the effects of the not-so-great economic times, and trimming their payrolls. Instead of signing free agent talent, they are developing their own for cheaper. F
