Will there ever be an MP3 player comparable to the Ipod on price and quality?
Those “wannabes” you mention already provide about the same price level and quality, or better, as the iPod. The reason they haven’t taken over the market isn’t because they’re too expensive or not good enough, but mainly because the iPod has so much momentum behind it. If you’ve bought a lot of music from the iTunes Music Store, it’s a pain to convert it to a format another player will play. If you’ve bought a lot of accessories for your iPod, you’ll have to throw them away and buy a new set for the new player. And even if you don’t own a player already, you can see that when the stores are full of iPod accessories and your friends all own iPods, life will be a little easier if you get an iPod than if you get some unpopular player with few accessories and only a tech support line to call upon when you need help. I have an iPod, but frankly the Zune looks like a little better value to me. It has directional buttons instead of that awful iPod scroll wheel. I’d never use the FM radio or
