While vendors spent the day setting up tents for the Park Avenue Festival, police beefed up security. Last year, police made more than 50 open-container arrests at the Festival. This year, they’re prepared to do it again, if necessary. “We do have officers who will be out there tonight, enforcing the open container law,” said Deputy Chief George Markert, adding, “They will also be enforcing the noise code.” People who violate the container law or the noise code could get a ticket — and pay a fine. Officers will also be relying on four temporary cameras placed at different intersections as part of the city camera system. “They are a force multiplier, if you will,” Markert said. “One camera can see a long way, and provide the ability to gauge the crowd and activity of crowds.” Several dozen officers will focus on the Avenue itself during the day, and then move into the neighborhoods at night.
