Will there be a Paul Simon tribute CD made from the LOC Gershwin Awards concert?
I would record the show when it is on PBS again). It’s an interesting question about the rights to the show itself between the LOC, Simon (who I believe still owns his publishing) and the artists. The clearances would be intense, which is why you rarely see CDs from events like this unless the event is a charity and everyone signs going in. Since this was what is supposed to be an annual event (like The Kennedy Center honors), it’s unlikey. There may be a “Best of” CD in the future, featuring multiple artists being honored, but I can’t imagine the show itself heading for DVD or CD. There could also be a track release or two in the future, especially in a digital format like iTunes, but I wouldn’t expect to see the whole show on single release. I can’t think of another non-charity in recent memory where that has happened. It’s a shame too because the show was awesome.
