Will the Vols be able to play ball control with their running game?
The Vols established that they’d be able to do this on their first offensive possession of the game. It started out positive for the Gators, putting UT in a third-and-12 from its own 25-yard line. But tailback Montario Hardesty busted through a huge hole on the right side of the UF defensive front on a draw play for a gain of 20. The play put the Vols in ball-control mode from there. They ran 12 more plays in the drive before kicking a field goal to make it a 3-3 game. UT would have loved a TD on that opening march, but the Vols did just what they wanted to do, take the crowd out of the game early with a 15-play drive that took 8:33 off the clock. After that initial drive, the defense shut down the Vols, forcing a bunch of three-and-outs. UT didn’t have any success again until the offense turned the ball over to the Vols in the fourth quarter. 4.
