Will the tories slash the duty on petrol?
The Tories have two main problems in telling us now what they would do about petrol duty. First, they have no idea what the price of oil will be in two years time. Second, Labour have landed the country, as they always do, in a very serious financial state, and it would be unwise for the Tories to make any hard promises until they know what they are actually going to inherit. Haulage costs, of course, eventually come back to consumers in terms of the costs of food etc in the shops. EDIT ‘Cruz’ forgets that VAT replaced ‘Purchase Tax’ to bring us in line with Europe. Also, once again, the Tory bashers are long on rhetoric but short on explanation as to why they hold their views.
