Will the recent terrible earthquake in China have any effect on the Olympics being held in China?
China will probably maintain resources being used in the construction and planning for the Olympics; however, any other resources in the country that can be moved, will probably go to Sichuan province. Bejing, where the Olympics are being held, is far from the earthquake site, and while it is reported that the tremblor could be felt there, I’m not sure if many people noticed, and I’m darn sure that it didn’t have any effect on structures there. China sees the Olympics as very, very important. It is their entrance into the elite nations of the world. They will not let anything short of war stop their efforts to make these Olympics the most noticable ever. The rest of the nation will pitch in, either voluntarily or involuntarily to help Sichuan, but as far as the Olympics are concerned, no one will notice the difference. Well, there may be one way. The earthquake will focus more attention on China, and may help them market the Olympics more effectively, due to the sympathy factor.
