Why? Yes. The NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision is the highest level of collegiate competition. UL strives to compete with the best in the nation – in sports, as well as academics. So, it would be a step backward to switch to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division 1-AA). By remaining in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, we give our student-athletes the opportunity to reach their full potential. There are many examples of UL alums who have gone on to compete in professional sports, such as Jake Delhomme and Brian Mitchell. What is UL’s economic impact on Acadiana? It’s approaching a billion dollars annually. UL contributes to the economy in many more ways than just turning over dollars. For example, it’s the third largest employer in Lafayette Parish, with about 1,900 employees. More than 2,000 men and women earn degrees from UL each year. We educate most of the teachers, law enforcement officers, engineers, business leaders, artists and nurses who live and work
