Will the primary clutch off of a 1999 500xc sp fit on a 1996 indy 500?

I have heard that the tapers might not be the same. The guy I bought the clutch from said it was off of a 1999 snowcheck indy 500 ,but the mounting bolt for the clutch is not even close to the same as the bolt from the 1996 indy 500. I still have to pull the clutch off the 1996 so I have not got a good look at the taper yet,but it looks like it takes the same puller.
