Will the new hospital be built on the Macquarie Point Railyards?
The Railyards on Macquarie Point has been selected as the preferred new site for the Royal Hobart Hospital. The preferred development option on this site will be compared with a range of development options on the existing site to ensure the best approach is selected. A detailed assessment and investigation of the Railyards site has been undertaken and some of the issues considered include: • An assessment of the impact of and on surrounding activities • Geological testing • A risk assessment of sea level rise and potential flooding during extreme weather events • Assessment of site contamination and remedial work • The capacity of existing services, such as power, water and sewerage, and road access. The assessment concluded that there were no issues of a magnitude that would prevent the site being used to locate a new hospital facility.
