Will the new cpc for drivers in the psv and hgv sector cause unemployment?
It does not apply to existing drivers except bus drivers have to do the CPC by just under 4 years time and lorry drivers by just under 5 years time. No doubt a few will decide not to get the 5 days done and quit lorry and bus driving then – their choice though so not really creating unemployment. It may reduce the number of drivers taking new licences in the immediate future so a few training organisations may suffer some job losses. Having said all the above there are something like 15000 lorry drivers currently out of work and many in work on short hours due to the ressession so the CPC is unlikely to have a noticable effect on employment in my opinion.
