Will the mod chip brick my wii when i update firmware?
This is another pointless question. Nintendo cannot do much to stop a mod chip just by update firmware. It can update certain security issue like when they did with firmware 3.1 v2, most of Wiikey clone rendered useless with 001 error, however, the genuine is not affected. That is because of the flaw in design of those clone mod chip. But people come out with patch for those game quickly, or they could change to a newer mod chip easily.
