Will the kitten already have its vaccinations and dewormings?
A. Vaccinations and dewormings are standard practice. Kittens receive a set of core vaccinations (Eclipse4 Modified Live) at 6wks and again at the age of 9wks. Thereafter, your kitten’s booster vaccination will be due once a year, each year. This vaccine covers Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calci, Panleukopenia, and Chlamydia. Kittens do not receive the Leukemia vaccine since our cats & kittens are not allowed outside around other cats and also because once a Leukemia vaccine is administered, a kitten will test positive for Leukemia antibodies. This in turn will give a false + anytime thereafter, that the kitten has routine lab work drawn. What that means is the kitten will, in all likelihood, always test positive for the feline leukemia disease. Then years go by and say, for example, your cat gets a dental infection, lab work is drawn, and the cat’s results came back + for feline leukemia….you won’t know if your cat has indeed contracted feline leukemia, or if it is a false + due to the a
