Will the independent writing prompt be a part of the Jan. 2005 ELA exam grade 8?
A. Yes, the independent writing prompt will continue to be part of the current format of the Grades 4 and 8 tests in January 2005. No change will occur to these tests in 2005. However, starting with the field testing of the Grades 3-8 tests in February 2005 and continuing with the operational testing in 2006, there will be the changes. These changes will be 1) no independent writing prompt at any grade level and 2) the Grades 3, 5, and 7 tests will have an editing passage.
