Will the ePassport contain biometric information such as an iris scan or fingerprints?

No. The only biometric information stored on the electronic chip will be a photo of the passport holder’s face. The other information stored on the chip will be identical to the information that is visible to the naked eye on page 2. Once this information is locked on the chip, no information can be added or removed. ePassport readers will be installed in all 34 Passport Canada offices. Passport holders will be able to use these readers to verify the information stored on the chip, if they wish to do so.
