Will the Chinese Film Industry Be Bigger than Hollywood in years to come?
It’s certainly a possibility since they don’t bother to pay royalties on the US films they exhibit internally or reproduce on disc for sale worldwide. Not honoring copyrights gives them a real competitive edge. Hong Kong has always done well international Sales. For many years, Jackie Chan was the biggest star in the international Film Market. Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yu movies sell well everywhere too. It’s not just Chop Socky. Hong Kong has always produced a lot of crime thrillers and horror movies. Love stories are becoming more popular in China as well and will probably hit the International Market eventually.
