Will the changes to Hanzawa’s cause more traffic?
Maybe a little, but the types of businesses we will have will be for the surrounding community, so mostly they are going to be people from the area. We can’t imagine Makawao or Paia residents, let alone tourists, who would want to drive out to Kaupakulua to visit a mail store or a vet’s office. There may be a few, but these just arent the kinds of businesses that are going to bring people from outside the area. Remember too, the roads have gotten busier without any changes to the store. Rather, there are more cars because so many people have moved to the area. Since 1990 more than 1,500 homes have been built in the overall Haiku area, and there are 500 within a mile radius of the store. All of those homes means there are a lot of people who have to drive somewhere to work or to shop. If they dont drive to Hanzawas, they are going to be on the road anyway.
