Will the Avaya and Agere spinoffs affect Statistics Research in particular?

Two of our colleagues, Lorraine Denby and Jim Landwehr have moved to Avaya. Also some of our current non-statistician collaborators in Microelectronics will go with the new company. But many new exciting problems keep surfacing, such as fraud detection, web mining, data and wireless network performance, monitoring, and simulation, and bandwidth auctioning; the fact is that all these changes challenge us more and more, and require us to expand the statistics group.
