Will the Ateneo-De La Salle game be as disappointing as the JRU-San Sebastian matchup?
Before we answer that, what happened to Jose Rizal University in that heavily anticipated showdown? The game was close for 20 minutes, and it took the Stags just 10 minutes to tear the Heavy Bombers apart. San Sebastian’s third quarter run, which ended in a 29-11 scoring tear, looked like a scene from that 1998 film, Pleasantville, where the community’s hoops team had a harder time missing than making baskets. The Recto unit just couldn’t do anything wrong as every shot fell in. Ato Agustin’s squad shot 50 percent from the field against a pretty good defensive unit. At the other end, JRU just caved into the pressure, and thought one-on-one, playground-type hoops was going to get somewhere. Even if the game proved to be a disappointment, especially to the neutrals, it’s good to see this matchup turn into a talking point.
