The point of the mission in Afghanistan is to create a place where terrorism can’t grow. Without a legitimate government, it will come back. NATO is still there because if it leaves, terrorism will grow again in Afghanistan, and will be exported (again) to NATO countries. So, yes, the point is to ‘stop terrorism.’ That job is not yet finished, so we are still there. We are not ‘massacring [sic] innocent Afghans.’ Actual combat operations are a tiny fraction of our operations over there, and they target only those who want to create war. We spend a TON of effort to make sure we don’t hurt anyone else, but combat is a confusing place, and people sometimes make mistakes when they are getting shot at. This doesn’t mean we kill innocents on purpose.

What is your question?
