Solaris ZFS is a next generation file system that is designed, over time, to replace UFS along with the need for separate volume management software. ZFS ships with the current Solaris OS along with the default UNIX file system, UFS and complements these special purpose Solaris file systems and storage archiving management software: Sun StorageTek QFS SAN file system with the Sun Storagetek SAM archiving software.
