On the 5h of March, the Scottish Parliament called on the Scottish Government to put back on plans for such a referendum. which saw 72 votes in favour of the abandoning of it, and 47 in favour of continuing with it. (1) In reality the SNP will push for the referendum question later next year, which I believe will see a similar outcome of the recent vote. Fact of the matter is, the Unionist parties, whether rightly or wrongly are arguing that the Global Economic Downturn make such plans a waste of time. I have also yet to see a poll by a reputable pollster pushing above 50% in favour of Scottish Independence from the Scottish public. Although this may change, and my opinion is that it my very well do so in the future , right now however the referendum question based on the evidence would be voted down – even if by a small margin.
