Will Sacha Baron Cohen Make a “Kind of Magic” out of Freddie Mercurys Story?
Both MSNBC and New York Magazine are reporting that satirist Baron Cohen will play Freddie Mercury. As you will recall, Baron Cohen also made the film BrĂ¼no, appeared in “The Simpsons,” and has skewered real people, such as linguist Noam Chomsky, and racism alike, via characters like Borat and Ali G. Or so Baron Cohen would contend with regard to fighting racism. Baron Cohen is preparing to pour his form into the sparkly “Bohemian Rhapsody”-esque leotards formerly filled by Mercury. No word yet on whether Cohen has the mike stand twirling or “Day-O” down yet, or whether he will do his own singing. This film, being scripted now, will follow the band from its early years–presumably the late 1960s and early 1970s–to its performance at Live Aid in 1985, just 6 years prior to Freddie’s untimely demise (MSNBC). Biopic guru Peter Morgan will work on Freddie’s life story, which is slated to be produced by GK Films, along with Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Productions, according to New York Magazi
