Will replacing a bad egr valve increase gas mileage?

Phoenix Az. My 1994 roadmaster failed by .01 point on one of 3 tests, relating to EGR valve on emissions test. I changed out the valve and my mileage seems much better.  Got to inspect it today abd get my new tags. I’m sure it will pass with flying colors. Vehicle has 208,000 miles.

With a working EGR valve, the residual fuel in the exhaust is burned which causes a slight increase in your fuel mileage. ChaCha!
