Will premature babies have different physical or mental instincts than a normal baby?
No, but some of the typical newborn instincts may be delayed until the preemie reaches the age at which he/she would have been full term (i.e. 2 months premature will exhibit full term instincts at 2 months of age). The mother’s body, however, will demonstrate different instincts when a baby is born prematurely. Her body produces breast milk significantly higher in fatty lipids (required for preemie brain development and to acquire a requisite amount of body fat to maintain body temperature, something full terms are already born with).
