Will PPI and Telefonica create an all-Spanish team?
We have not yet received a response form PPI on this, so take it as you may. CARTAction.com speculates that PPI’s survival could all depend on Spanish communications company Telefonica. The multi-national company has already pulled the plug on its F1 sponsorship, and is considering doing the same with Champ Cars. However, they may be tempted to stay if Marc Gene joins PPI next year, to create a Spanish superteam with Oriol Servia. Gene has been left jobless after Telefonica withdrew their Minardi sponsorship, but he is keen to stay in F1. He has already received an offer to lead Williams’ extensive test program in 2001, but is currently looking for race deals.
