At present, existing PowerPoints with sound will not transfer the sounds. The rest of the PowerPoint will transfer. This keeps you from creating a brand new presentation from scratch. An image will show where the audio file belongs. Several file formats and methods were tried including .mp3, .m4a, and sound recorded directly into the PowerPoint slide. The best that can be done, at present, is a work-around. This work-around includes deleting the sound file place holder and using the INSERT menu to reinsert the audio file. MP3s appear to work just fine. M4As and sound recorded into the PowerPoint do not. If you have a PowerPoint for the students to use with sounds recorded directly into the PowerPoint, you can separate them from the main PowerPoint so they can be readded to the OpenOffice version by choosing SAVE AS… in PowerPoint and changing the FORMAT to HTML.
