Will Pope Benedict allow priests to marry?

0

Every pope allows some priest to marry. Currently there are over 100 married Roman Catholic priests in the United States. In fact, my parish priest is one of these married priest. He was a special case because he was an Anglican priest who converted to the Catholic Church and the pope allowed him to maintain his ministry. That said, I think celibate priests are wonderful. I think its wonderful that they have this calling and are imitating Jesus Christ. The pope will not allow for any major changes in the discipline of celibacy. However, you may see more special consideration given to persons who are already married to progress into the Catholic priesthood. This means you may see more Protestant ministers convert to the Catholic Church and become priests, and you may see some allowance for permanent deacons to be able to progress into the priesthood.
