Will phonic instruction intrude on my implicit reading methods/philosophy?
A. Effective phonic instruction will not intrude on any reading method or philosophy. Phonics is not reading or a method of teaching reading. As the processing (decoding) cue, it is best taught using spelling, handwriting and creative writing as the vehicles to transfer and integrate the “useful” phonic generalizations across the curriculum.
