Will PAL region 2 DVDs play on Australian PAL region 4 DVD players?

Supplementing the previous answer… There are multi-region DVD players on the market that will play DVDs encoded for any region. Some of these also support both the NTSC and PAL video formats. (I’ve also been told SECAM, although I have not seen this demonstrated.) You also have the option of making a backup copy of the DVD. Some software allows you to change the zone or dezone the disk. Dezoning will allow you to play the disk on any DVD player. One freeware program for Windows that I have found useful is “DVD Shrink”. If you have a Mac, I have read good things about “Mac the Ripper”. All you need is a DVD recorder on your computer. NOTE: Making backups of your films is illegal in the US, although it is permitted in some other jurisdictions. .
